Programmes
What is a Programme?Despite significant progress in understanding the molecular pathways underlying immune-mediated rheumatologic diseases and the emergence of powerful new technologies, the translation of this knowledge into effective treatments and health measures remains slow. The aim of Programme Area 4 is, therefore, to bridge this gap by accelerating the process of developing effective diagnostic tools and therapeutic approaches in rheumatology.
Our mission focuses on developing and validating biomarkers for ...

Programme area 3 focuses on understanding the complex cell interactions in inflammation and rheumatological diseases and uses systems biology methods and artificial intelligence to analyse these processes holistically down to the level of individual cells. In the ‘Systems Rheumatology’ department, interdisciplinary teams of scientists work together to develop customised algorithms that can elucidate the complex mechanisms of rheumatic diseases. These precise approaches are based on our deep ...

Inflammation is a crucial reaction of the immune system involving various cell types, effector molecules and signaling pathways that protect us from infections or tumors in the tissues. However, chronic or uncontrolled inflammation can lead to various diseases in which the immune system directs itself against its own body. This is the case in rheumatic diseases, which can affect many different tissues. A remarkable feature is therefore the heterogeneity of the inflammatory processes and their ...

Using advanced epidemiological methods, Programme Area 2 investigates biological, psychosocial and health care-related factors that influence the course and outcome of rheumatic diseases in adults and children. Our research mainly builds on long-term observational studies, conducted in close cooperation with a nationwide network of more than 500 paediatric and adult rheumatology specialists. In addition, specific population-based analyses are carried out using data from health insurance companies ...
